In his grand synthesis, which he calls the 'Transcendent Wisdom', Mulla Sadra bases his epistemological considerations on a robust analysis of existence and its modalities. His key claim that knowledge is a mode of existence rejects and revises the Kalam definitions of knowledge as relation and as a property of the knower on the one hand, and the Avicennan notions of knowledge as abstraction and representation on the other. For Sadra, all these theories land us in a subjectivist theory of knowledge where the knowing subject is defined as the primary locus of all epistemic claims. To explore the possibilities of a 'non-subjectivist' epistemology, Sadra seeks to shift the focus from knowledge as a mental act of representation to knowledge as presence and unveiling. The concept of knowledge has occupied a central place in the Islamic intellectual tradition. While Muslim philosophers have adopted the Greek ideas of knowledge, they have also developed new approaches and broadened the study of knowledge. The challenge of reconciling revealed knowledge with unaided reason and intuitive knowledge has led to an extremely productive debate among Muslims intellectuals in the classical period. In a culture where knowledge has provided both spiritual perfection and social status, Muslim scholars have created a remarkable discourse of knowledge and vastly widened the scope of what it means to know. For Sadra, in knowing things, we unveil an aspect of existence and thus engage with the countless modalities and colours of the all-inclusive reality of existence. In such a framework, we give up the subjectivist claims of ownership of meaning. The intrinsic intelligibility of existence, an argument Sadra establishes through his elaborate ontology, strips the knowing subject of its privileged position of being the sole creator of meaning. Instead, meaning and intelligibility are defined as functions of existence to be deciphered and unveiled by the knowing subject. This leads to a redefinition of the relationship between subject and object or what Muslim philosophers call the knower and the known.

„Wir warten bis es Dunkel ist und dann brechen wir auf.“
„Und wenn ich nicht mit dir gehen will?“
Bhreac sah sie eindringlich an und zog dann eine Augenbraue hoch.
„Glaubst du, dass du irgendetwas gegen mich unternehmen kannst?“
„Du wirst mich also weiter gefangen halten, nicht wahr?“
„Ich hatte den Eindruck, meine N�he w�re dir nicht allzu sehr zuwider“, erwiderte er mit einem anz�glichen Grinsen.
„Wenn du glaubst, dass das jetzt irgendetwas ge�ndert hat, dann ...“
„Ich freue mich, dass du mit mir �bereinstimmst. F�r mich hat sich durch diese Sache auch nichts ge�ndert. Du bist meine Gefangene und ich behalte dich bei mir, solange es mir gef�llt.“ Er blickte sie aus gef�hrlich blitzenden Augen fest an. „Und ich nehme dich, wann immer es mir passt.“
„Dazu hast du kein Recht!“, begehrte Montana auf. „Du, du ...“
„Was?“
„... gemeingef�hrlicher Irrer!“
Er packte sie bei den Handgelenken und sie versuchte, sich von ihm loszurei�en. Es war ein j�mmerlicher Versuch. Nie w�rde sie sich gegen ihn wehren k�nnen. Sie musste es auf eine andere Art versuchen. Sein Vertrauen gewinnen und darauf warten, dass er unvorsichtig wurde.
„Es gibt keinen Grund, mich anzusehen, als w�re ich ein Ungeheuer. Ich wei�, dass du nur allzu willig bist, mein Lager zu teilen. Glaubst du, ich habe vergessen, wie du um mehr gebettelt hast?“
Montana err�tete. Aus Scham und aus Wut. Wie konnte er es wagen? Doch er hatte nur allzu Recht. Sie hatte ihn angebettelt und allein der Gedanke an ihr Liebesspiel brachte ihr Blut erneut zum Kochen.
„Ich habe dir nur etwas vorgespielt“, log sie wenig �berzeugend. „Ich dachte, dass ich dadurch einen Vorteil gewinnen k�nnte. – Mehr war es nicht!“
Ohne Vorwarnung riss er sie in seine Arme und k�sste sie hart und fordernd. Sie versteifte sich in seinen Armen, versuchte die heftigen Gef�hle zu unterdr�cken, die er in ihr ausl�ste. Doch schon bald sank sie kapitulierend gegen seinen stahlharten K�rper und ergab sich seiner w�tenden Leidenschaft...

About the Author
Rebecca A. Ottesen first learned SAS as a student at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where she now teaches for the Statistics Department. As a Biostatistician for the City of Hope, Rebecca uses every opportunity to incorporate her research and programming experience into the coursework for her Cal Poly students. Lora D. Delwiche enjoys teaching people about SAS software and likes solving challenging problems using SAS. She has spent most of her career at the University of California, Davis, using SAS in support of teaching and research. Susan J. Slaughter discovered SAS software in graduate school at North Carolina State University. Since then, she has used SAS in a variety of business and academic settings managing large databases, teaching SAS software classes, and helping other SAS programmers. She now works as a consultant through her company, Avocet Solutions.

No solutions for the programming exercices

There are no solutions for the programming exercices, only 'hints'. I bought this book to prepare for an exam, but it won't be helpful at all. Really disappointed that I spent $15.91 on it :(.

I just finished the semester and this book is very nice for a practice. When you read together with the little SAS book a primer, fifth edition, then it would be great for SAS beginner.

Entertaining semi-biography of One of America's Best Physicists

Too bad Richard Feynman died so young. He was brilliant. Was his cancer likely caused by exposure to radiation during his work as a young man at Los Alamos? Who knows?
If it hadn't been for him, the cause of the shuttle Challenger explosion probably would never have been discovered. He was tenacious.
Funny, poignant, interesting read.
After reading this book, watch "Fat Man and Little Boy" on DVD with Paul Newman, John Cusak, Laura Linney. Feynman is portrayed in the film. Very good movie about Los Alamos and the creation of the A-Bomb during WWII.
