About the Author
MICHAEL J. ZWECHER is a leading expert on retirement income. He has created guidance, designed products, tools, and portfolio constructions that appeal to the financial advisor community and their clients. Zwecher co-chairs the curriculum committee of the Retirement Income Industry Association. He spent over ten years at Merrill Lynch, holding senior roles in risk management and wealth management, where he ran the Investment Management Strategic Solutions team in the Financial Products Group. Prior to Merrill, he was a consultant with Deloitte, an assistant professor at the Graduate School of Business Administration at Fordham University, and a visiting associate professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Zwecher holds a PhD in finance from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Book on RIIA's Essential Readings List

It is worth noting that this workbook and its companion book are on the Essential Readings list for the RMA designation [Retirement Management Analyst(sm)].

Mike Zwecher's books focus on one of three fundamental retirement planning/flooring strategies identified in the RMA curriculum:
- "Investment-based planning/flooring".

The other two fundamental retirement planning/flooring strategies are:
- "goals-based planning/flooring", and
- "product-based planning/flooring".

Because of the non-lobbying "View Across the Silos" perspective of the Retirement Income Industry Association (RIIA), this is a more-objective-than-most measure of relevance and value-added.

The mission of the association includes:
- the empirical validation of academic and industry solutions, processes and products,
- the publication of solutions that pass the vetting process, and

A Poor Choice

It was a major struggle to get through this text. The author's total concept of "flooring" as a way to build retirement portfolio was, in my opinion, contrived. The two paragraph summary sections at the end of each chapter seemed to say everything that needed to be said - it was just better said and better illustrated by other authors on the subject. This book isn't a worthwhile read for the practicing RIA and certainly not useful for the non-professional.

2010 and beyond, Authentic Instruction for Light Workers

The title of this book was the thing that attracted me to it. Turns out that the book is tremendous. So wonderful, in fact, that I parted with my beloved copy only because it was desired/needed by a dear freind. I ordered another, which I covet and protect, refering to it often. It lives on my bed stand, an arm's reach away should I need to peruse any of it's fascinating pages.
This is superb channeled material. It's rare and wonderful to find such authentic work! David Cousins gives helpful, practical teachings such as meditative techniques to activate your light body, how to deal with negative energies, how to cleanse your computer, pesonal karma, soulmates, earth changes, & much more. A Handbook for Light Workers has been such a positive force that I've told many people about it. I'm hoping that this book can help the masses who are mystified by the global crisis at hand. Copyright date is 1993.
The price is a steal.

A book of exercises

This is just so you all have one more opinion out there... I have only read a few chapters, the reason is that it is not quite an easy book to read for entertainment. The authors views were from the "white light" perspective, but his personality of writing was not "grabbing" for me.
It has been a while since I had the book in front of me so I will do the best to remember... It started out with a couple chapters to gather the authors perspective, then it moves to endless chapters of exercises. Yes the exercises have a good deal of information to describe a situation and how the situation is applicable in our world then it tells you how to deal with the such and such situation. One small example is how to ground energy in a car/plane. One of the problems that this book has was that it seemed to Exude an opinion that as long as your doing white light things that your not in any danger of doing anything improper. So if I got the wrong opinion of the auther then it is clear that I do not agree with how he writes his exercises and if I did understand his standing as it is written in his book then I would disagree with him outright and suggest a more grounded approach to the subject.
There are a lot of things to learn from the book though, and I don't want to dismiss it, since I love the white light perspective, I just have to say that if you buy it that I would not expect to make it the only book to base your knowledge on. The one instance that I would suggest it to a person is if they are battling Fear. Since working with white light has no room for fear. Ultimately though I suggest actually dealing with the origin of the fear. Not to get off subject though.

Lucado always a pleasure to read; always a new insight.

The Lucado series is always a pleasure to read. He has a wonderful knack for explaining the life lessons of the Bible. Good for novice bible study but still containing an interesting gem for the those with more bible study experience under their belt. The seller was prompt in fulfilling the order and the book is in excellent condition.

Mildly Disappointed

Max Lucado is one of the great Christian wordsmiths of the era, which is part of why I am disappointed with this book. - It doesn't have many words by Max. "Life Lessons," is a Bible study, with 8 to 12 questions for each chapter of Ruth and Esther. The content of the book is 10% Bible Study questions (which are good questions, by the way), 10% "Inspirational Words" from authors like Toni Campolo and Joe Stowell, and 80% the NCV and NKJV texts of Ruth and Esther. I own NCV and NKJV Bibles, so I would have preferred to pay $4.95 for Max's Bible Study and omitted the rest.

If you're looking for a simple Bible study, this might be a good one for you. It's nicely laid out and easy to follow. If you're looking for some background and content on the books of Ruth and Esther, you'll want to buy a different book.

About the Author
Mary Beth Pfeiffer is a Soros Justice Media Fellow who has written articles on prison conditions and the treatment of mentally ill inmates for numerous publications. A journalist for twenty-five years, she has been an investigative writer and editor for the Poughkeepsie Journal for the last decade. Her prison reporting has won her two National Headliners Awards, an Outstanding Achievement Award, a national Council on Crime and Celinquency citation, and six awards from the state Associated Press and state Publishers Association. In 2004 she was awarded a fellowship from the Open Society Institute to research articles on the imprisoned mentally ill.

Another hidden tragedy in our Prisons

In 2006, I became interested in our prisons, as Human Rights Watch did a report regarding the use of dogs as a way to extract prisoners from their cells. Iowa was listed one of seven states who used such inhumane practices. As my work continued I became aware of the United States being one of only four nations in the world that lock our children up and throw away the key. It is no surprise that the mentally ill are another hidden tragedy in our prisons.

"Crazy in America: The hidden tragedy of our criminalized mentally ill" gives us the story of six individuals whose stories transcend throughout our prison system. We have taken people who have been diagnosed with mental illness and put them into a prison that seeks punishment rather than help that is desperately needed. Dollars no longer go into Mental Health but into prison systems that lack the necessary tools to help those with mental illness. Instead, our prison system feeds their psychosis by locking those mentally ill in a cell for 23 hours a day for long periods of time.

This is the book we have been waiting for, a book that is not only beautifully written, but gives us a glimpse of our failing, broken, and inadequate prison system. This book is informative and heartbreaking, but above all, it gives grounds to why we MUST fix our shattered prison system.

Crazy In America is a national tragedy that demands action

The author of Crazy in America introduces us to 6 of our brothers and sisters whose lives were devastated by mental illness along with the families that care deeply about them. Three committed suicide while in isolation cells in both jails and prisons. Luke in a Texas jail, Jessica in the New York prison system and Joseph in the California Youth Authority Facility. Two more, Alan and Peter died in separate incidences at the hands of Florida police officers whose very presence exacerbated the symptoms of their illness. The pain and anguish of the five individuals and their families unfolds before your eyes as you read their stories.

The sixth person the author writes about is Shayne, my niece, the focus of my advocacy work and truly a special person and survivor. As I read Shayne's story I grieved for the horror that was unfolding once again before my eyes. The anguish of not being able to stop the crime that landed her in jail and eventually an Iowa prison. The self mutilations of her right eye and two years later her left eye. Six months after blinding herself she dislodged four of her teeth trying to bite off her finger. Visions of this vulnerable and sick woman destroying herself one digit at a time terrified my thoughts as I pleaded and begged for help from whomever would listen. Four months later Shayne tried to bite a whole through her cheek and I wondered if it would ever end. All of these incidences happened while in isolation cells. Shayne has proven, at least to me, that isolation is not treatment. The prison environment was to stressful for her coping skills and she started a downhill slide 1 year into what would be 5 years behind bars.

It is hard to write a review of a book that causes you to feel so much pain and suffering. I do however thank Mary Beth for being the caring and knowledgeable advocate that she is. Shayne and her family are forever grateful that she has used her journalistic talent to tell the stories of these six vulnerable and loved individuals in the hopes that changes will be made before to many more have to suffer being criminalized because of a misunderstood illness.

If countries are judged by the way they treat their most vulnerable citizens than I grieve also for America because our mentally ill are being hidden from view behind prison walls which is where they were 150 year ago. The medications necessary to stabilize symptoms of mental illness are available. The knowledge of what needs to be provided to ensure their success living in the community is known. It will take the will of the people to provide these basic necessities. Call your legislatures and congressmen and tell them to support laws aimed at helping those with disabilities.

Crazy in America: The Hidden Tragedy of Our Criminalized Mentally Ill As a long time staff advocate for the National Alliance on Mental illness (NAMI), I found the book and its multiple story accounts very accurate and heart rendering. For the uninformed, the stories may be so impactful that they will find it hard to understand that a society could mistreat its citizens so badly. Good book.

About the Author

Pamela Mason took her first degree in pharmacy and then studied nutrition, gaining an MSc and a PhD in nutrition from King’s College London, UK. She has an MSc in food policy from City University of London, UK. She is a registered public health nutritionist with the UK Association for Nutrition. She works with local food networks in Monmouthshire, South Wales.�

Tim Lang is Professor of Food Policy at the Centre for Food Policy, City University of London, UK. He founded the Centre for Food Policy in 1994 and was Director until 2016. He is co-author of Food Wars (2015), Unmanageable Consumer (2015), Ecological Public Health (2012) and Food Policy (2009). He is policy co-lead on the EAT-Lancet Commission on Healthy Diets from Sustainable Food Systems (2016–17).
