About the Author
Jane K. Cleland writes the multiple award-winning Josie Prescott Antiques Mystery series (St. Martin's Minotaur). The ninth in the series, which is often reviewed as an Antiques Roadshow for mystery fans, BLOOD RUBIES, will be published in December 2014. Library Journal named the first in the series, CONSIGNED TO DEATH, a "core title" for librarians looking to build a cozy collection, one of only 22 titles listed, along with books by Agatha Christie and Dorothy L. Sayers. "Josie" stories have also appeared in Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine (AHMM). The novella, "Booked for Death," is slotted for publication in the January 2015 issue of AHMM. In addition, Jane has published four nonfiction books, most recently Business Writing for Results (originally published by McGraw Hill). Jane is well-established and well-respected in the global crime fiction writing community. She chairs the Black Orchid Novella Award, one of the Wolfe Pack's literary awards, granted in partnership with Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine. She is a past chapter president of the Mystery Writers of America, New York Chapter and served on the national board. One to keep close.

I have read a lot of how to writing books and this one is in the top seven or eight. Well written, with the added bonus of deconstructed examples, she doesn't just tell you how to build suspense...she shows you. After reading, I applied her methods to the outline of a new novel. Not only was it easy to see where the plot might lag, it helped raise questions that needed answers. Well done.

Amazing guide to success

This book is chock full of great advice on perfecting your writing. Each chapter is focused and succinct. The exercises are valuable and illustrative. I already had my novel written when I read this book. Now I have to revise it into the novel I thought I wrote, but didn't. Cleland's book will take me there.

In deed the best book for inexperienced writers, or for the ones that have novel-ideas and can write, but have no clue how to captivate the readers with the appropiate pace of adding drama or certain moments in certain places of the book.
I will for sure read it a secon time, so i cand summarize all the lessons. Thank you, Jane!
