Tremendously powerful teaching on matters that impact the heart

Bloom sums up this 31 day devotional (or set of readings) in his introduction: "This is a book to help you with your heart problems. Because your biggest problems in life are heart problems." He then goes to outline how David, "a man after God's heart", prospered when he followed God's heart and struggled when he followed his own.

We often hear the encouragement: "follow your heart" or "what's your heart telling you?" and by using Scripture, Bloom reveals that such encouragement is in fact misleading and may by the worst advice to follow. Why? Because sin infects our heart. That's where it resides and as a result may mislead your heart's leanings. I know in my life I've made decisions based on my heart, and many of those haven't turned out well.

With various titles such as: "The insanity of leaning on your own understanding," "The priceless grace of pressure," "When God feels cruel," and "When God Seems Silent", Bloom using scripture reflects on matters that impact our heart and seeks to provide fresh insight on how to interpret them.

I love Bloom's teaching. It's practical with a good mix of empathy and tough love. Having just finished it I will start it again to allow its goodness to further percolate in my heart and mind.

I grabbed a copy of this off the Desiring God website in PDF form. It was a free version. But I would happily pay for it as this is quality teaching.

After first downloading a free copy from desiringgod and staying up late two evenings to read every word, I am now ordering a paper copy. Some books deserve to be on your shelf. Forever. This book was tremendously helpful to me during a difficult time. When one is hurting or exhausted or confused, and even simple ideas seem hard to grasp or hold on to long enough to swallow and make them really yours, this is your book. Jon Bloom's way of writing is refreshingly clear and uncluttered. Read this and be encouraged to fight the good fight another day.

Sue Nilson Kibbey is an ordained United Methodist elder who serves as the Director of the Missional Church Consultation Initiative (MCCI) for the West Ohio Conference, a comprehensive 360-degree training and coaching effort that assists congregations and their pastors to jump-start a new life cycle of fruitfulness. Kibbey served as executive pastor of Ginghamsburg United Methodist Church in Tipp City, Ohio for 10 years, where she teamed with Pastor Mike Slaughter to create and deploy the vision of the church as well as provide oversight of the staff and all discipleship/mission initiatives. Sue is also the creator of the Ministry by Strengths program, which helps leaders connect into individualized areas of ministry service passion, and is an adjunct professor for ministry leadership at United Theological Seminary. Stunning 5 star book that will leave you on the edge of your seat!

I'm struggling right now to come up with the most perfect word for this phenomenal book. This is definitely one of the few books where my mind has just been blown away. Bam-wham- gabush. It took my breath away! I am truly stunned by the greatness that is Michelle Horst! Those familiar with Michelle's work will be shocked at just how dark and dangerous this book really is. But even in the darkest parts of this book you find one of the most heart warming love stories I've seen written in a long time!

After Dark Boundaries, the story of the Macht family continues. Noah and Amy grew up as cousins. He's adopted. She's born into the family and she never lets him forget that. As they get older, their feud escalates. But after things said among friends gets taken in the wrong way, their lives unravel quicker than anyone could imagine.

Thrust into chaos, Amy and Noah must learn to survive tragedy, grow in their newfound love and respect for one another and overcome obstacles fate seems determined to throw in their way.

Read this book! It's a dark and twisted beautiful piece of literature you will not be able to put down and will leave you craving more Michelle. I'm a Michelle Horst addict and soon, you will be too!

What a rollercoaster ride this is. Not what I was expecting..Thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the storyline. This book follows on from Dark Boundaries and has all the same characters plus more. Love following Amy and Noah, love that they have a volatile love hate relationship. I was shocked at the violent turn of events that drew them apart, then together, then apart again.. Didn't see THAT coming! Just when you think things are starting to come together.....BAM, didn't see THAT coming either! It was a rollercoaster of suspense, love and drama that I thoroughly enjoyed. It has however left a few questions that I'm desperate to get answered. Book 3 is on its way......can't wait.

You hate her.
You hate being in the same room as you.
She's annoying.
You hate looking after her.
But you always do what your Mum and Dad tell you.
But you don't have to like it.
And you don't.
She gets under your skin.
And she's so cruel, so terribly cruel, always reminding you that you will never be really family.
Your parents will never really be your parents.
You will never really belong.
You don't care that she is only eight years old.
You despise her.

She's your cousin Amy.

You have always known that you were adopted, but Amy always reminding you of that fact since you were a little boy stays with you. It eats you from the inside out. You have nothing but pure hate for her, and now in adulthood, you will always make sure that you get under her skin and pay her back for all the hurt she caused you all those years a go.

But what happens when it all goes wrong?
What happens when Amy is threatened and you don't believe a word she says?
What happens when you take her words and throw them back at her because you want her to hurt?

Amy is taken.
Kidnapped.
Held against her will.
Not knowing if she will survive her capture or not all Amy can do is pray that she will survive this?
All she can hope for is that Noah will believe her and save her.

Will Amy be saved?
Will Noah realise that Amy was telling the truth?
Will Noah ever get the chance to tell Amy his sorry?
Or will Noah be too late?

You will just have to read this amazing novella to find out.

Like Dark Boundaries, we absolutely loved this novella. It's tells the story of Kristine and Garrett's daughter Amy and Justin and Riz's son Noah that we meet in the first novel. We get to see the old characters from the first novel, but primarily this novel is about both Amy and Noah. It's about their hatred for each other, and what consequences lay ahead of them both when blinded by hate and desire for payback. It's about their trust and desire and need for each other when the hatred blinkers are taken off. It's about love finding it's way in the unlikeness of places.

Again it's dark, griity and at times highly confronting emotionally, but well worth the read.

Michelle Horst has yet again produced another spectacular read with Cruel Boundaries that will eave you wanting more. And we definitely want more.

A definite 5 star read.

What a cool cat Socrates is (and by extension Plato). Made it through first four dialogues, skipped number five, and now am 30 pages into the Republic, my reason for the purchase in the first place. The basis of Western philosophy (alongside Judeo-Christian thought). Great stuff.

Great Translation!

A great translation of Plato's best. I ordered this as a rhetoric student hoping to explore more into Plato's thinking and teaching. This is wonderful. It is small enough to carry with me in my purse or book bag. It is, sadly, paperback, which means I've already torn the cover slightly, but that is what always happens with paperbacks for me.

Her wedding and contemporary lifestyle images can also be found in stock libraries, fine art galleries, and advertising campaigns for hotels, pharmaceutical companies, and record labels in the U.S. and Europe. Award-winning and published in numerous magazines and websites, Etienne also contributes to key industry publications such as Bride World, Rangefinder, AfterCapture, The Times Journal of Photography, PDN, Petersen’s Photographic Magazine, Photoserve.com, Kodak.com, and Photobiz.com. She currently serves on Kodak’s advisory board and has her own consulting business and workshop company called Dream Team Photo Workshops. She lives in Los Angeles, California.

Love this book

Elizabeth Etienne has good, sound practical knowledge of the photography business, primarily for portrait and wedding work in this book. I thorougly enjoyed her examples and step by step warm personable writing style that makes anyone feel they can do this. After a couple more classes I hope to sign up for her coaching as well... This is an excellent book.

This book explains EVERY thing you need to know about how to start up your own photography business. From writing ideas down, to purchasing items for your photo studio, to office equipment, financial information, and where to start. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who is starting out. It helped me get a jumpstart on things I didn't even know and I know it will definitely benefit me. Getting started right now to earn that income and do my dream job!! I've been waiting for this for a long time and now I found the guide to help me!!! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!!

Thoroughly Ready

After being asked to shoot more and more photo jobs through word of mouth over the past two years and having people ask me to "go live" with my photography business, I have been reading everything I can get my hands on about the business of photography. This book was a great read that has inspired me to dust off my film camera from 18 years ago and shoot both film and digital. I love how thorough EE is and how she freely shared her mistakes in hopes that her readers will avoid some of, if not all of the pitfalls of being a "new" business owner in photography. I continue to book more photos jobs and am on my way to "going live". Can't believe it got this book for $.99 on Kindle. I feel like I need to buy the hardcopy as this book is a good reference tool with all of the contracts examples. Next up, EE's Engagement Photography book. I skimmed it and it too has more business information along with excellent photography information. Got this on on hard copy.

This book is a very good introduction for planning theory. If it wasn't a required text, there is no way I would be reading it. I feel like the author could have made his point without as many words or concept, for every paragraph you read, you have to research a term or concept used. some of which I should know, but can't remember because it was since my undergrad days.

alot like karakuri

this book is very similiar to the karakuri book the begining is just information on paper animation and the begining is just mechnisms for you to use to create your own models and then it has some full animation kits in it.
the first 9 models in the paper models that move book are just teaching you difrent mechnisms and how they create movment and the book gives you ideas of how to use these movments to create your own model but i didnt do any of those the last 6 are compleat animation kits and i just finished the third one.the first one is a pretty simple model and not very hard its called
happy birthday and its just a stork carrying a baby that flaps its wings and moves back and forth.

the seconed model is called ducks on the pond its a very nice looking model it just is a simple turntable that moves a set of ducks around in a circle and thrugh a little lilly turnel.

the third model is the one that is the center picture on the cover its called pyrimid lifter this model has alot of little tube pieces and other little pieces that all join together to create the movment it takes a bit of time to do but like with all paper animation kits as long as you are prececise in your cutting of the pieces(the pieces are not pop out and all need to be cut out with scisors and you need an exacto knife to cut out the openings in some pieces)and glue everything accuratly then the movment will be accurate.

just finished all the paper models the weight of buracay model is a bit tricky in some parts expecialy when glueing the cams to the inside wheels.also on mine the center tube that conects the handle to the movment on the inside got all twisted and ripped apart so the handle dosnt work but i can turn the inner wheel manualy and i do get the movment.

the last two models use a sand mechanism that is ment to run off of fine sand going thru a funnel and then creating the movment.the pianist wasnt very hard to make the folds on the piano are a bit hard to see but otherwise it is fairly simple

the last model is the gymnist it didnt seem to be hard but i cant get the movment when i turn the wheel that the sand should fall in and turn so im not sure what i did wrong on that one but mine dosnt work but the back ground scene looks nice sitting on the shelf with my other paper models.

Great models and a little challenge

Walter Ruffler's models ran the gamut in this book; some are fairly easy to assemble while others can be quite fiddly, especially if you are new to automata or papercraft. I used some of these successfully with middle school aged students (11-14) but the models operated by gravity-fed sand proved too much of a challenge for them. Ruffler's finished models are charming, as always; just be prepared for the detail work involved in getting the mechanisms aligned and operating smoothly.

Cardboard marvels.

This book was worth every penny spent on it ,I have completed 4 projects which are a joy to make,I can appreciate the work that went into producing the book,well done Walter
