About the Author
Professor Keryn Chalmers, BCom, Grad Dipl, PhD, joined Monash University, Department of Accounting and Finance, in 2003. For 15 years prior to this she was with the School of Accounting and Finance at Victoria University. Her teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels have primarily been in fi nancial accounting and fi nancial analysis. Keryn is an active researcher in the fi nancial accounting and fi nancial reporting area, specifically in relation to accounting policy and disclosure choices of management.

Lorena Mitrione, BCom, MBus, CPA, joined Monash University, Department of Accounting and Finance, in 2009 as a lecturer. For 12 years prior to this, she worked at CPA Australia. Since 2001 she was the CPA Program Manager responsible for the development and maintenance of CPA Program materials and examinations. In this role Lorena developed a sound sense of the requirements for accounting learning materials while maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of accounting standards, accounting research, technical accounting matters and business practices.

Susana Lai-Mei Yuen, PhD, MSc, MBA, CPA(Aus), FCCA, ACIS, is an Associate Professor in the School of Accounting and Finance, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong. She was a lecturer in the School of Accountancy at the Queensland University of Technology for 8 years before she returned to Hong Kong. Her teaching areas are cost and management accounting and her research interests are in cultural and behavioural issues in accounting, performance measurement, and the impact of management accounting on the organisational life cycle and strategic management of the business.

Michelle Fyfe, BCom Hon, BBus, CA, is a corporate accountant for a top 100 listed Australian company working in the corporate division producing external fi nancial reports. Prior to this she worked as a lecturer at Monash University, Department of Accounting and Finance. She has also had extensive working experience in chartered fi rms and industry within Australia and the United Kingdom. Michelle also ran a consultancy business for 2 years helping small businesses develop accounting systems and deal with current taxation regulations.

A pleasant weekend read

I’m not sure I’ve ever read a bad book from Harlequin. When I’m in the mood for a solid read, I tend to reach towards Harlequin. While these days it’s hard to find an original theme in a story, what the author does with that theme makes all the difference. With The Greek’s Ready-Made Wife, the story is about a fake engagement to help along a business deal. But since we’re talking about a romance, we know that we’re going to end up with a happily ever after. This is in no way original, but Ms Faye engaged my emotions and filled the journey with enough twists and turns to make it a memorable and enjoyable read.

Kyra and Cristo end up being just what each other needs. Kyra’s a bit more free-spirited than the rigid Cristo. He needs her to pull him out of constantly thinking about work. And she needs him to be in her corner as she deals with her family. These two together just worked and I enjoyed watching as they tried to navigate their growing feelings against the situation they found themselves in. I kept turning the pages to see how they were going to finally declare their love and turn the engagement real.

All in all, this book was a pleasant weekend read that grabbed me from page one. The Greek setting added to the romance and I’m actually looking forward to returning to Greece with the next book in the series.

This is a great romance treat when you need a quick happy ever after fix. I like the theme of the ‘marriage of convenience’ that catches both parties by surprise by turning real. I never know how it’s going to come about and in The Greeks’ Ready-Made Wife I was pleasantly amazed. This story has a flavor of O. Henry’s famous theme and a bit of Horatio Alger thrown in too.

The conflict is mixed with a family betrayal, tragedy and loss, and a child’s yearning for a parent’s forgiveness and acceptance even into adulthood. The story is told by both Kyra and Cristo’s point of view, but it’s mostly through Kyra’s because her character has the most to lose and gain depending how things go.

I enjoyed watching Kyra and Cristo’s non-relationship evolve, grow and change into true friendship. I liked how Kyra slowly, gently showed Cristo that there was more to life than work and she helped him gradually understand what he really was missing in life. He might be rich, influential and driven, but he was more than that and he deserved more than what he was settling for in his life. The heroine had the most to gain but Cristo needed change the most. Their growing romance was beautiful to watch.

Another beautiful aspect of this tale was the opportunity for healing, understanding and the promise of new beginnings. The Greeks’ Ready-Made Wife is full of positive vibes and love. I enjoyed the dialogue, the sweet humor and the many leveled happy ever after. I recommend this romance story to readers who want to satisfy their need for a feel good theme; The Greeks’ Ready-Made Wife delivers.

This is an excellent book.

I liked the book because Biehl had many good ideas. Biehl believes that today's mobility has cut down on the amount of lifetime mentoring that goes on. One hundred years ago, this type of lifetime mentoring occurred often. Children on farms were mentored along side of fathers and mothers and entire families. These relationships provided instruction and encouragement over many years. Because we live in such a mobile society these relationships are becoming less frequent. In today's society people must make time to mentor each other. This requires commitment on behalf of mentor and the protege. Without this commitment to time and effort, the lifetime mentoring relationship will not survive. Many times people mentor for the good feelings they get out of helping someone else. Other times people mentor others because they are paid for it as part of their job. These people are mentoring because they get something out of it. Biehl believes mentoring is more about asking how can I help you, instead of what should I teach you. Mentoring should be a relationship with someone you like, someone you believe in, and someone you want to see succeed in life. The mentor takes on the attitude that they are there to help this person in any way possible. The mentor doesn't look to what the relationship can do for them, but what they can do for their prot�g�, the person they are mentoring. In ideal situation, the mentor and prot�g� will become friends. Biehl warned that two common problems mentoring relationships often occur are: opposite sex relations, and starting with unrealistic expectations. While mentoring relationships between the opposite sex are sometimes successful, they tend to have more problems. As Biehl states, "relations can get deep enough, fast enough that the love individuals give and receive can easily be reinterpreted into sexual dimensions. We can find ourselves attracted to a mentor or prot�g� of the opposite sex-even if the person isn't that physically attractive to us." I think one must remember here that Biehl is talking about a lifetime mentoring relationship. I believe that mentoring in a more common way where people only spend an hour or two together a week would not find as many problems with the opposite sex mentoring relationship. While I agree with Biehl that these relationships can open themselves up to some uncomfortable situations, I do not agree that these mentoring relationships should never be attempted. In regards to unrealistic expectations, Biehl states that many times proteges enter into the mentoring relationship with unrealistic expectations. Some proteges believe that the mentor will solve all their problems during their relationship. It can be helpful discuss expectations in the beginning of a relationship. Questions such as: What things will you talk about? How much time will you spend together, and where will you meet? By asking these questions up front, you can avoid a lot of problems with unmet expectations during your mentoring relationship.
My Overall Assessment: I agreed with Biehl that having a mentor in your business or professional setting gives the prot�g� a major advantage. "With a mentor's objectivity on your side, you are a bit surer that the direction you have chosen is the right one." A mentor can point you in the right direction so that many of obstacles that you would have had to learn the hard way can be avoided. "With a mentor's network on your side, you meet the people needed to get you where you are going". It is an old phrase, but I think it applies often that says, "it is not what you know, but who you know." Biehl did an informal survey of proteges for words that described successful mentors in their life. Some of the words people used were: consistent, stable, affirming, believed in me, accepted me where I was, saw me as a person of value, included me in their life, fun, a person of character, trustworthy, admired. I found that to be very telling. Notice what was not said: smart, genius,talented, or rich. It seems the people who make the most difference in our lives are the ones who care. I think I could summarize many of this books best points by saying, "when you mentor someone, the best thing you can do for them is to care about them."

Heavy on Mentoring Mantra, Light on Biblical Content

Perhaps my view of this book was biased by my reading of "As Iron Sharpens Iron" by Hendricks. His book is also on mentoring, and is far superior to this one. This volume seems to come more from the standpoint of a mentoring enthusiast rather than a saint who is set on building godly, life-transforming relationships with members of the same sex.
While overusing the term "mentoring," Biehl does give some very helpful points for developing a mentoring program in the local church. Rather than appointing mentors to prot�g�s, he suggests developing lists of persons willing to serve in each capacity. Personal chemistry and mutual attraction then would work to bring the two together.
Hendricks work is much stronger in its treatment of mentoring. I recommend it as a first choice in learning more about this important, long-neglected biblical practice.

Great book!

The quality of paper is much better. And the coloured pages makes the reading easy to enjoy.
The book itself remains the best in coloproctology, despite the paper.

Excelent!

I recommend this book because we can see the opinion of the experts! There is a section "Comment" where the author put his opinion on several controversies. It is very good!

I keep reading many chapters for 3-4 times to compare it with my experience and to consult new cases.

The book is a well assorted collection of science, skills and tacit knowledge as well as a thorough look into every pathology of wide interest.
